An 18-year-old man drowned in a pool in Midvale on Thursday, three days after a 14-year-old boy drowned during water polo practice in Springville.

According to the Unified Police Department, the 18-year-old was found unresponsive in the pool at an apartment complex at 978 E. South Union Avenue on Thursday evening. First responders performed CPR but the victim could not be revived.

Springville City officials said the 14-year-old went under the water during practice for the city’s water polo team on Monday and didn’t come back up.

The team was practicing at the Clyde Recreation Center at 717 S. 1200 West about 5:30 p.m. when he sank to the bottom of the pool. The team’s coach dove in, pulled the boy onto the deck and began performing CPR. A lifeguard took over and was able to revive the teenager.

The boy was taken by ambulance to Spanish Fork Hospital, then flown by helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. He died Monday night.

The boy’s name has not been released, and his death remains under investigation.
