Cameron Rising lasted all of 14 plays as the University of Utah’s starting quarterback.
Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham said Tuesday morning on a Zoom call with reporters that the redshirt sophomore will have season-ending shoulder surgery after sustaining an injury early in the second quarter of Saturday night’s 33-17 loss to USC.
Jake Bentley, who came on in relief of Rising, will start Sunday’s game at Arizona State, and likely for the rest of the season.
Bentley, who started 33 games across four seasons at South Carolina before transferring to Utah in January, went 16-for-28 for 171 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions against the Trojans.
